Tell us something about yourself!
I'm Kels! I'm a 21-year old bipolar drop out in California that loves to make stories and eat peanut butter flavored ice cream.
What kind of art do you usually draw ?
I love to make surreal comics and animations that are usually inspired by my experiences with mental illness, lesbianism, and womanhood.
What got you interested in working with the Depression anthology?
I really liked the Anxiety anthology! Plus I already had comics lying around.
When I saw the theme, I thought about how I felt like, in media that addresses depression, bipolar folks can be neglected. The depressive symptoms aren't usually what people picture when they think "BIPOLAR". But in reality many of us experience depression intensely and often, sometimes in surprising ways or at the same time as being manic. I've found it's not really well understood sometimes...?
Tell us a little bit about your works for the anthology!
I made these little comics when I was low a couple months ago, and had just stabilized on medication. It leveled me out from being manic to being depressed before I got better, so I was working through those feelings.... The originals are really scrappy drawings on printer paper, so I redrew them specially for this anthology!!
That’s all really cool! Where can we find you?
Mostly on Instagram
